To show your world, you have to know your world

Whether you’re looking for city lights or breath-taking natural beauty, the UAE offers the perfect location for an unforgettable experience.

About The United Arab Emirates

Strategically located at the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe, the UAE – Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah, is a land of contrasts - from bustling souks, to towering skyscrapers, stunning desert and mountain landscapes and miles and miles of golden beaches - a dream come true for any event organiser.

Time

GMT + 04 hours

Language

Arabic, but English is widely spoken.

Climate

Warm and sunny all year round, with the months of October to April usually the coolest.

Electricity

Standard three-pin 134 amp British-style plugs operating on 220/240 volts.

Photography

The UAE offers an enormous choice of subject matter, however it is advisable to ask the locals permission first. Please respect all ‘No Photography’ signs as it is forbidden to take pictures of military facilities, borders and airports.

Safety

There is virtually no crime in the UAE, making it one of the safest and most secure destinations in the world.

Bargaining

Bartering is normal in souks and most small shops, however all Department stores, supermarkets and western style shops operate fixed prices.

Traffic System

Vehicles are driven on the right side of the road. Holders of an International Driving License are allowed to drive in the UAE provided they are over 21 years old. Driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited and this is taken to mean any detectable consumption whatsoever, including the day after.

Taxis

All taxis are metered and operate on fixed tariffs. The taxi sign can be clearly seen on the roof of the vehicle.

Alcohol

Alcohol is widely available at bars, restaurants, hotels, and clubs, however you cannot purchase alcohol from a supermarket. It is against the law to drink alcohol in the street or public places.

Tipping

Normally 10% is considered the correct amount, but is not obligatory.

Clothing

People in the UAE dress conservatively in public areas.  Swimwear is acceptable only at the beach or around the swimming pool. Shorts and t-shirts are common, but when visiting mosques, religious sites, or older parts of the city loose-fitting clothing that covers shoulders, arms, and legs is considered more appropriate.

Daytime dress code

Casual attire and comfortable shoes are essential for sightseeing. In line with local custom, we would urge you to wear modest clothing at all times.

Evening dress code

So as not to offend the local community it is best to avoid visible cleavage, hot pants, tank-tops and tight fitted or see-through materials.

Mosque dress Code

Smart or smart -casual is required, with no ripped jeans, flip-flops, sneakers/runners or shorts. Women are required to wear a headscarf. Please see the dress code at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque for ladies and gents.
